The trip

Time together that you'll both remember

Fathers and sons rarely get uninterrupted days together. On a Redtail father & son retreat, a few pairs head into the mountains to hike side by side, talk about the things that matter, and pray for each other.

The trip ends with a blessing: each father speaking over his son what he sees in him and who God made him to be. For many men, it's the first time they've heard it out loud.

Who it's for

  • Dads and sons ages [AGE]+
  • Adult sons and their fathers, too
  • Pairs who want to reconnect, or simply go deeper
  • No backpacking experience needed

What you'll experience

A typical retreat

A mix of time as a whole group and time for each father and son alone.

Arrival

Story & memory

Hit the trail together. Walking conversations about family history: what was Dad like at your age, and where did each of you first meet God?

First night

The heart of it

We read Genesis 1–2 around the fire, then talk honestly about manhood. Dads go first, sharing where they've fallen short and what they wish they'd said.

Middle days

Solitude & trail

Mornings alone with God in Psalm 19, Psalm 121, or Luke 15. Each man comes back with one word or line God put on his heart.

Last morning

The blessing

Each father lays a hand on his son's shoulder and speaks a blessing over him. Then the sons pray for their dads.

What you'll take home

More than a camping trip

Every pair leaves with:

  • A printed father & son trail guide with discussion questions
  • Conversations you may never have had at home
  • A spoken blessing from father to son
  • A plan for how to keep praying for each other
  • Memories, and probably a few good stories
